How many individuals can register for each retreat weekend?

The retreat is limited to 10 individuals to ensure a safe and therapeutic experience. The lower number limits distractions and keeps the group process interactive and connected to the retreat goals, created and facilitated by Ross Rosenberg.

Why don't you allow couples to attend the retreat?

This is not a couples therapy retreat. This is also not individual therapy. This event is ONLY for SLD individuals who have already begun the work on themselves and have an interest in getting more insight into themselves and learning the best course of action to take with them to their home-based therapist for continued growth. Ross will be able to diagnose any candidate with SLDD (or not) on our 15-30 minute Zoom screening. Couples would not only change the dynamic of the room for the rest of the group but it would completely go against the goals of the intensive weekend (which is for individual growth, not marital issues).

How can I prepare for the retreat? Are there requirements?

Ross expects that anyone who registers for the weekend retreat will have read his book, The Human Magnet Syndrome: The Codependent Narcissist Trap, PRIOR TO the Zoom screening. In addition, prior to the Zoom interview, Ross recommends watching as many of his YouTube videos as you are able as well as reading his published articles. Being very familiar with his work is a major factor in relation to the intensive weekend’s individual results. During your interview, Ross may have specific recommendations of videos he feels would be beneficial for you to watch prior to attending the retreat itself.

What does the registration fee include?

The registration fee covers:

  • the workshop, which is 18 hours of events/activities (6 hours of lecture & 12 hours of experiential*)
  • a two-night hotel stay in a private, standard size room at the event location with either (2) Double beds or (1) King bed. You will not be asked to share a room.
  • the cost of catering for the weekend, including the Friday night get-to-know-you Chicago-style pizza party, Saturday & Sunday continental breakfasts, two delicious lunches and daily snacks and beverages
  • All workshop materials
  • CEU’s for IL practitioners
  • a Certificate of Completion
  • one signed copy of The Human Magnet Syndrome
  • $200 credit on Video Seminars from the Self-Love Recovery Institute store**

*as Ross no longer takes on new clients and rarely provides consultations, this would be a great opportunity for someone interested in his methods.

What is the Cancellation/Rescheduling Policy?

  • A 50% retainer is required to guarantee your interview reservation. This retainer will be applied to the final payment.
  • The final 50% will be due immediately after your interview/acceptance or on a timeline agreed upon by SLRI staff.
  • If you wish to cancel or reschedule your registration for another Retreat weekend, you can do so up until 30 days prior to the Retreat with a $400 rescheduling fee.
  • In the final 30 days prior to the event the full registration fee will non-refundable.

Why the interviews?

Not everyone who believes they suffer from Self-Love Deficit Disorder actually does. Approximately 10% of people seeking help from Ross with their Self-Love Deficit Disorder (SLDD) fall into this category. This percentage represents narcissists who believe they are SLDD.

A person’s mental health and their SLDD are not always correlated. Individuals with a mental health or addictions disorder are not invited to the group. To be very clear, Ross believes they need help also, but not at the expense of the rest of the group.

Where does the Retreat weekend take place?

What are the accommodations?

Included in your registration fee is a two-night hotel stay, in a private standard size (2) double bed or (1) king bed room, at the event location. If you prefer a different type of room, it may be requested at check-in. Based on availability, you would be responsible for the cost difference that would be due to the hotel at the time of check-in. The quoted rates will be offered, based on availability, 3 days before and 3 days after the event dates, if you plan to extend your stay in the area.

How do I get there?

If you are flying to the Chicago area for this event:

O’Hare Airport is the closest airport, as it is only 17 miles south of Skokie. A typical minimum taxi fare could start at $30, depending on traffic. Average drive time is 30 minutes.

Midway Airport is the other option. Please bear in mind that while the flight might be cheaper into Midway, it is farther from Skokie (26 miles south) and the taxi fare will cost more (minimum $50) and take longer (average drive time is 45 minutes), depending on traffic.

Travel times could be longer from both locations depending on your time of arrival, so please plan accordingly. This is something to consider since you are coming in on a Friday and will (potentially) be traveling one of the most popular roadways in the area (I-294).

What if I want to fly into Chicago and need transportation to Skokie?

If you require a taxi from O’Hare or Midway Airport, we HIGHLY recommend American Taxi Service (847) 673-1000. They charge approximately $27 from O’Hare and approximately $49 from Midway. Call them when you have your baggage. They usually pickup within 15 minutes of the call. You can also download their app to your smart phone and book your reservation in advance. Other taxis are available curbside outside of the airport, but they will potentially be double the rate.

What are the hours of the retreat workshop?

Friday 3:00-8:30p – Registration / Exercises & Lectures / Chicago-style pizza party

Saturday 8:00a-6:15p (8a continental breakfast & 1 hour for lunch)

Sunday 8:00a-4:30p (8a continental breakfast & 1 hour for lunch)

How can registration for the event start at 3p if check-in is not until 3p?

Upon check-in, please inform reception that you are there for the Self-Love Recovery Institute event that begins at 3p.

If there is availability, you will be able to get into your room early.

If there is no availability, which is sometimes the case, your bags can be held securely behind the front desk. Please realize that this is standard hotel procedure and SLRI and its staff has no ability to change it.

Can I find an outline of the retreat weekend material?

Ross is choosing to not make this public. Please be assured it will be an equal combination of lecture/information with experiential exercises. The experiential component consists of large group, small group, and breaking-off-in-pairs exercises. All the material will be related to Ross’s current work on Self-Love Deficit Disorder™/Self-Love Recovery™. Transportation in the area?

The hotel has a concierge service that can be utilized to help you get anywhere you need to go. Also refer to the above-mentioned taxi services.

What is there to do within 20 miles of the hotel?

Culturally, the hotel is centrally located for Chicago North Shore things to do including North America’s only Baha'i House of Worship and the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center. It sits directly across from the upscale Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center and next door to the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts.
